Frequently Asked Questions
California Proposition 65 Warning Notice

You may have seen the following notice included in the product packaging of our vinyl wristbands, which is required by California State law – WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

WHAT TESTS HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED ON PDC'S VINYL WRISTBAND PRODUCTS?

The raw materials used to manufacture PDC’s vinyl wristband products have been tested by third party independent laboratories to determine compliance with the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008) for the prohibited six phthalates identified for toys and childcare articles. Test results from the third party independent laboratories conclude that the raw materials for PDC’s vinyl wristband products contain a “ND (not detectable)” amount of the prohibited six phthalates, or less than .001%, and are therefore in compliance with safety standards established in Section 108 of the CPSIA  Act of 2008 for children’s toys and child care articles containing phthalates.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact PDC for more information or to learn about alternative PDC products. Call (800) 435-4242 or (661) 257-0233, or email info@pdcsolutions.com.

DOES THIS WARNING MEAN OUR PRODUCTS ARE HARMFUL OR UNSAFE?

The warning is a mandate from the state of California known as the “California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement act of 1986,” or “Proposition 65.” It is a broad law that applies to any company operating in California, selling products in California, or manufacturing products that may be sold or brought into California. The law requires companies to include the warning when a product contains certain chemicals designated by the State at certain levels even if it does not make a product unsafe. The purpose of Proposition 65 is to ensure that people are informed about exposure to these chemicals. It is considered a “right-to-know” statute.

WHAT CHEMICALS ARE COVERED UNDER PROPOSITION 65?

Proposition 65 mandates that the Governor of California maintain and publish a list of chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects and/or other reproductive harm. The list, which must be updated annually, includes a wide variety of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that can be found in a wide variety of products and items such as dyes, solvents, drugs, food additives, pesticides and more. Currently, more than 900 chemicals are included under Proposition 65.

PDC KEEPS YOU INFORMED

Proposition 65 is a statute designed to keep California residents informed of the presence of certain listed chemicals.  In keeping with the "right-to-know" purposes of the statute, we have opted to keep our customers informed about possible exposure to chemicals and to provide the warning on our product packaging.

Because PDC manufactures and sells products nationwide and internationally, the company has elected to place the warning inside the packaging of all our products distributed domestically.
